Dali has a total population of a mere 650,000 and only around 200,000 are clustered in the Old Town, making the old town of Dali a unique and intimate place to experience on a trip to China. Dali is a main stop and a must-see on any visit to Yunnan province.
The old town of Dali offers visitors a variety of foods to sample. Wander the early morning markets and travelers are guaranteed to see the locals dressed in their traditional costume selling fresh produce, breads and meats. There’s reputable restaurants in the old town, particularly on the “foreigner street” which is scattered with restaurants catering to both Western and Chinese tastes. In the evenings, the old town retains it’s laid-back vibe and it serves as an ideal place to stroll along the cobblestone roads or people-watch while sitting in an intimate cafe.
