Wuxi Cuisine
Regarded as one of China's top 14 styles of cooking, Wuxi cuisine is characterized by light, sweet flavors that emphasize the use of seasonal ingredients. Seafood such as shrimp, crab, eel, and other ingredients found within Wuxi's lakes are essential ingredients in local dishes, cooked simply to enhance and retain the natural flavors. An abundance of fresh vegetables are available in Wuxi and are always used in the local cuisine. The area is known for its delectable dim sum, specializing in small plates such as three-fresh wontons (sanxian huntun), steamed dumplings (xiaolong bao), square cakes (fang gao), sugary taro (tang yutou), glutinous rice dumplings (tangyuan), and turnip slice paste patties (luobosi bing). Wuxi specialty dishes include Wuxi Spareribs, Liangxi Crisp Eel, walnut chicken balls, five spiced chicken leg, and braised pork.
