China National Industry and Commerce Museum of Wuxi

Established in 2007 in the heart of Wuxi's historical downtown, the China National Industry and Commerce Museum of Wuxi covers more than 12,123 sq meters of the provincially protected cultural relic site. Graced by spectacular views of the Grand Canal on its east, west, and north facades, the museum preserves the historical architectural style of the traditional Wuxi Maoxin Flour Mill.

First operated in 1900, the mill served as a workshop, barley storehouse, flour-making facility, and office building for Rong Desheng and Rond Zongjing, the mill's founding brothers and highly regarded businessmen. As one of the earliest national industrial factories, the mill is a prime example of China's national industrial commerce, marking the development of China's national industry.

The museum serves to illustrate the significant developments in China's industrial past over the last century. Objects and historical records throughout the museum's exhibition halls reflect on the origin and evolution of national commerce and industry as well as its effect on China's economic and societal structure. By preserving the nature of the original mill, the museum recreates the original environment of the historical structure, painting a vivid picture of China's early industrial beginnings. Within the museum's grounds is also the Business and Trade Street of the Republic of China, lined with recreations of ancient shops filled with brand names and famous products that illustrate the historical foundations of Chinese commerce. Along the street stands the Ya Shu Tea House, a popular spot for rest while visiting the museum. Each floor of the traditional teahouse is designed with unique characteristics to further articulate the industrial and commercial growth of China, documenting history with the use of multimedia touch screens, and a video hall.

The museum offers guide services in various languages, welcoming all visitors to indulge in the fascinating history of China's rapid industrial development.
