Heavenly Lake

Heavenly LakeNestled within the Bogda Mountains, Heavenly Lake encapsulates some of Urumqi's most picturesque scenery, as well as some of the area's most fascinating legends.  About 110km east of Urumqi, Heavenly Lake covers approximately 5sq km, and takes on the shape of a crescent moon. 

The lake sits at an altitude of 1980m above sea level, causing the pure, clear waters to remain cool and refreshing, reflecting imagery of the snow capped Bogda Mountains. The high altitude tends to keep temperatures relatively low in the area, making Heavenly Lake an ideal summer retreat for visitors and locals alike. Hiking and climbing through the surrounding forests are quite popular here. Boating and fishing are also available and is very enjoyable at dusk when the water is still and quiet. During the summer, vivid patches of colorful flowers spring up around the lake, making it a picturesque place to relax.  During the winter the lake freezes over, attracting visitors eager to skate upon the icy surface.
