Shanghai Shopping

The thriving metropolis that has become Shanghai has developed as one of the best places to shop for an endless array of goods.  Anything from local handicrafts and the finest Chinese pearls to international brand-names and boutique items can be found in Shanghai’s countless flee markets, bazaars, and shopping malls.
Silk:  Shanghai’s close proximity to Suzhou, the world’s finest producer of pure silk, makes it an ideal place to come across exquisite silk products at affordable prices.  If its plush hand sewn bedding or vibrantly colored scarves you’re after, you will find what you’re looking for in one of Shanghai’s many silk vendors.
Pearls:Pearl hunting is an exciting aspect of any Shanghai shopping adventure.  Because China is still one of the world’s most fertile grounds of pearl cultivation, you can select from a wide variety of saltwater and freshwater pearls both local to Shanghai, and originating from other parts of china.  Pearls range in a wide variety of styles, colors, and quality so take your time when shopping for the perfect one.  Many stores even allow you to design your own pieces once you have selected your pearls, and they will craft them for you while you wait.

Jade: Pieces of the world’s most uniquely and delicately carved jade can be discovered in Shanghai.  A stone that carries a fortuitous tradition in Chinese history, jade can be found in an array of colors and can be carved into many intricate shapes. Jade varies wildly in quality and price, so unless you're a serious collector, limit yourself to a few affordable souvenirs. You will come across some of the largest vendors with the widest varieties of color and quality while shopping in Shanghai.
