Ancient Water Town Zhujiajiao

 Zhujiajiao is a historic canal town approximately an hour drive west of Shanghai.  It boasts a transportation system among Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province and Shanghai City due to its superior geographic location. The rivers and lanes cross one another in a picturesque landscape that dates back from the Ming dynasty (from the 14th to 17th centuries). Nine long streets hug the rivers banks, and thousands of ancient traditional buildings line up along the water. Nearly 36 old bridges retain the charms of history and development, where China’s first modern post office was built.  Zhujiajiao covers 47 square Kilometers and its development is shaped as a folding fan inlayed in the between mountains and streams. Masses of people consider Zhujiajioa the Venice of Shanghai. Its renowned beauty has  made the Shanghai Municipal Government officially recognize Zhujiajiao as one of four cultural ancient towns in Shanghai in 1991.
