Sanya Climate & Best Time to Visit Sanya

Sanya has always maintained its reputation as the Hawaii of China, due largely in part to its tropical climate that keeps temperatures ideally comfortable throughout the year. The average temperature is about 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) and it peaks in June, sometimes reaching 95 degrees Fahrenheit. It remains comfortably warm during the winter, making Sanya a perfect tropical getaway during long, cold winter months.

Spring in Sanya (March through May) is characterized by slightly cooler temperatures, averaging around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit). During this season, t-shirts and light pants are typically enough to enjoy the fresh, clear days, although you may want to bring along a light sweater as it tends to cool down a bit in the early morning and late evening.

Summers tend to be slightly humid (May through November), with temperatures averaging closer to 26 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit). If you are visiting Sanya to enjoy the bountiful scuba diving and snorkeling during this season, be sure to bring enough clothing because the humidity tends to keep things from drying all that quickly. This is also known to be Sanya's rainy season, so be prepared for the occasional storm.

Winter is a wonderful time to visit Sanya because while temperatures drop rapidly throughout china, here the humidity fades, leaving behind only clear, cool, comfortable weather perfect for outdoor activities. Diving is a year-round activity in Sanya, but because water temperatures fall slightly during the winter, it is best to get your dive in during the warmest hours of the day, between 11am and 3pm.
