Luhuitou Hill
Luhuitou Hill stands just 5km south of Sanya City. Its name translates to mean "Deer Looking Back Hill" in English, and was aptly named for its shape, which appears as a deer looking behind his shoulder. The hill rises more than 270 meters in height and is surrounded on three sides by the sea.
The legend that surrounds the hill tells of a young hunter who one day stumbled upon a young deer grazing quietly in the grassy field. They young hunter ran after the deer for more than 9 days until he was finally able to chase him to the top of a hill with no way of escaping. At this moment the helpless deer turned back to look at the hunter for mercy. Touched by the innocent light in the deer's eyes, the hunter let down his bow. To his astonishment the deer then transformed into a beautiful maiden. The two were soon married and lived peacefully among the natural beauty of the hill.
