Pingyao Climate & Best Time to Visit Pingyao
The varying climate of Pingyao enhances the unique nature of this ancient walled city; with each season revealing a different aspect of what life is like here.
Spring season in Pingyao calls for a significant temperature difference between day and night. Temperature rises quickly in the day but has a tendency to drop in the evenings for a prefect evening stroll through the quiet ancient city. The temperature difference makes it ideal for the Shehuo Festival every spring, a kind of folk art performance in north China used to celebrate important ceremonies as streets and houses are decorated with colorful lights.
In summer, because of the temperate continental monsoon climate, rain and scorching heat become a constant. The temperature stays quite high coupled with what is considered the rainy season of Pingyao.
Autumn arrives with cooler weather as the temperature falls gradually and the sunny skies are still visible. This pleasant combination invites travelers from all over as well as photographers for the annual China Pingyao International Photography Festival during mid September.
The cold and windy months of winter make for a picturesque, snow-covered ancient town that would leave any photos postcard worthy.
The annual average temperature of Pingyao is about 10 degrees Celsius with the best time to visit being autumn or winter.
