Pingyao Transportation
Air: Pingyao is not directly accessible by air. The closest airport is Taiyuan Wusu Airport (TYN), 90 kilometers (56 miles) northeast of the city. The city can easily be reached by long-distance bus or by train after arriving at the Taiyuan Wusu Airport.
Train: The Pingyao Railway Station, located close the west gate of the Ancient Town, is limited in size and can only accommodate one train stop to and from each city like Beijing, Chengdu, Xian, and Chongqing per day. However, it is quite convenient to travel between Taiyuan and Pingyao by train. Trains arrive at Pingyao from Taiyuan approximately every 1-3 hours; trains arrive at Taiyuan from Pingyao every 20 minutes to 1.5 hours from 15:00-23:30. Depending on the type of train, the commute should take between 1-1.5 hours.
Bus: Not far from he Pingyao Railway Station is the Pingyao Bus Station where busses go to and from Taiyuan City and the surrounding counties. It is fairly convenient to catch a bus to and from Taiyuan between 06:40-18:30 with a 20-minute interval between busses. Also available are busses in front of the Pingyao Railway Station.
