Pingyao Cuisine
Cuisine in Pingyao originates from northern China, specializing in a number of wheat and rice noodle dishes. Pastries are also a local favorite here. Locals claim that 108 varieties of noodles and pastries define Pingyao's traditional cuisine. One of the most famous noodle dishes that aren't to be missed is wantuoze. Beef dishes are also widely prepared, serving a variety of slow cooked stews of tender beef. Street food is another part of the local culinary culture, serving up snacks such as jianbao (fried pork stuffed buns), kaolao (steamed dumplings). The cuisine is characterized by rustic comfortable flavors, with less of an emphasis on fine dining and a stronger focus on basic, homey dishes.
