Nanjing is most enjoyable during its brief yet comfortable fall season from October to mid-November. Considered to be one of China's warmest cities, Nanjing's summers tend to see extreme temperatures sometimes reaching 40 degrees Celsius. Because the city is situated within the lower valley of the Yangtze River, hot air is often trapped in by the city’s surrounding mountains. Civic tree planting projects are underway in Nanjing to help relieve summer temperatures.
The rainy season extends from mid-June to July, with temperatures averaging around 15 degrees Celsius. Winters see occasional snowfall with temperatures averaging between 10-0 degrees Celsius.
