Nanjing Transportation

Because of its convenient location along the active Yangtze River, Nanjing enjoys an extensive transportation system. The city is connected to all of China's major cities by air, rail, and bus, as well as China’s significant port cities that lie along the Yangtze River.

AIR:  Nanjing's Lu Kou Airport services daily connections to all of China's major cities, as well as routine flights to Hong Kong. Situated 35 kilometers from the city center, the airport is easily accessible by highway.

TRAIN:  Rail is a convenient and efficient way to travel to Nanjing's surrounding cities. Trains to Shanghai (4 hours), Suzhou (2 hours), and Hangzhou (5-1/2 hours) are brief and depart on a daily basis. Beijing and Anhui are also easily accessible from Nanjing. The railway is situated just north of the city center.

BOAT:  Passenger ships provide a memorable, scenic traveling experience. From Nanjing's main port along the Yangtze River, ships regularly depart for Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Chongqing, and Wuhan. The length of each journey varies according to the type of vessel you chose to travel on.
