Lhasa Climate & Best Time to Visit Lhasa

Lhasa attracts thousands of travelers to its unique city each year, hoping to get a glimpse at the mystery that surrounds it.  With an altitude of 3650 meters, it lies in a small basin surrounded by breathtaking mountains that help enhance its beautiful scenery.

Because of its high elevation, the temperatures here remain consistently cool and with an unusual amount of annual sunshine. The average temperature here is about 46 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius) with cold winters and mild summers.

The rainy season occurs mostly during the summer, from June to September. The rain usually falls in the evening, after warm, sunny days.  Like the rain, the temperature can also vary wildly from day to night. It is best to bring warm clothes to prepare for a chilly night, even if the day's temperatures are sunny and warm.

The best time to travel to Lhasa is during the summer or early autumn.  The weather during this time is mild and humid.  Spring and winter are generally dry, windy, and very cold.  The average temperature in the winter months is about 17 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 degrees Celsius).

It is suggested that you pack sunscreen, sunhats, sunglasses, and warm clothes for the evening because of the strong ultraviolet lights that are attracted by the high altitude of the city.
Lhasa is truly a unique city because of it location and the Tibetan people that inhabit the area.  Regardless time of year, a visit here would definitely prove memorable.
