Kunming Transportation
Air: Kunming Wujiaba International Airport services the city of Kunming and is 4 kilometers away from downtown Kunming. Travel time between the airport and Kunming is approximately 20 minutes by taxi. You may also take public busses 52, 67, or 78 or the shuttle bus, CAAC. Kunming Airport is one of the busiest airports in China and services most major cities in China as well as international flights to Southeast Asia.
Train: Kunming is extremely accessible by train. It has four railway stations, the main one being Nanyao Station, which is 4 kilometers from the city center and takes approximately 15 minutes by taxi. Trains run every day from Dali, Yuxi, and other outlying cities. The other main station is North Railway Station, about 3 kilometers north of the city center and where most tourist go if they are traveling to Vietnam.
Long-Distance Bus: Kunming's rapidly developing system has allowed bus travel to Kunming from places such as Beijing, Lanzhou, and Shanghai. There are daily busses that travel to other cities within Yunnan Province. You can purchase tickets at Kunming Passenger Transport Bus Station, located at the south end of Beijing Lu, within the neighboring Nanyao Railway Station.
Taxi: Getting a taxi is very easy on the streets of Kunming. Starting price is 7 RMB for the first 3 kilometers with an additional 1.6 RMB per kilometer there after. In the evening, the starting fair increases to 9.6 RMB.
Public Bus: The public bus system is extensive and extremely inexpensive, usually 1 RMB for non air-condition bus to 2 RMB for an air-conditioned one.
Bicycle: You can rent bicycles at hotels or the Kunming railway station for approximately 2 RMB per hour or 10 RMB per day. This is a great way to see the city at your own pace.
