Kunming Shopping
Kunming offers a variety of locally made products that speak to the different cultures, religions, and lifestyles of Yunnan Province. Kunming is well known for making handicrafts from wood, ivory, and jade, brocades, and bamboo baskets.
Dai Jin (brocade by Dai artisans) and Dai Bamboo Basketry: Dai Jin is a kind of drapery with many colorful and unique designs weaved by local Dai Woman. The special pieces can be used as cushions, bedclothes, bags, and curtains. The Dai people are also very clever at making many different articles of bamboo including cabinets, hats, and baskets that are unique to the region.
Jade Carvings: This exquisite handiwork offers 2 and 3 dimensional carvings of images such as birds, flowers, and other popular styles. It is both delicate in nature and precious to collectors. The designs can be extremely elaborate and intricate with many Chinese symbolisms.
Dried Products: Kunming also offers a wide variety of dried local products such as batik, tropical fruits, and mushrooms. In particular, the popular Kunming mushrooms can be stir fried and made into soup, omelets, and a variety of other dishes.
