Hohhot Transportation
AIR: Hohhot's Baita Airport is located 14k east of downtown. First opened in 1958, it was expanded in 1985 to sustain an annual traffic flow of 100,000 passengers. 28 air routes connect Hohhot to 26 domestic cities, as well as international connections to Ulan Batar and chartered destinations such as Hong Kong, Russia, and Thailand. The airport is currently undergoing a second expansion that will both increase capacity and accessibility to other destinations.
TRAIN: Due to an extensive railway system, train travel is a convenient way to get to and from Hohhot. Domestic routes connect Hohhot to Beijing, Batou, Xian, Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Ningbo, while international routes travel to Ulan Batar and Moscow. Tickets should be purchased at least three days in advance from the railway station, any travel agency, or ticket center.
BUS: Long distance busses depart daily for major cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Taiyuan, Datong, and Baotou. The cost of bus transportation is much lower than travel by air or train to Hohhot, but oftentimes is less predictable in terms safety and efficiency.
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION: A large number of bus routes and taxis make getting around in Hohhot very convenient.
