Shopping in Hohhot provides a unique opportunity to choose from a wide selection of local products from throughout Inner Mongolia. In Hohhot's bazaars, markets, and shopping centers you will discover a host of traditional hand crafted ethnic products such as cashmere, camel fur, carved horn products, and Mongolian knives.

CASHMERE:  In Hohhot three different varieties of cashmere are available; white cashmere, purple cashmere, and blue cashmere. The cashmere from this region is woven from iron wire and is very high in quality.

CAMEL FUR:  As a result of its key location within Inner Mongolia, Hohhot is considered the collecting and distributing capital of camel’s fur for the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. Products made from true camel fur are extremely durable and provide a great deal of warmth. Camel's fur originating from the Alashan League is known to be of the finest quality.

HORN PRODUCTS:  In Mongolia, many products of daily necessity are carved out of ox horn. Some of the delicately carved products that can be found here are thimbles, match boxes, cigarette cases, knife handles, and snuff bottles, just to name a few.

MONGOLIAN KNIVES:  Hand carved Mongolian knives serve a number of purposes in Mongolian society. They are not only essential tools for daily use, but also are commonly used as decorative pieces. The knives are typically carved from camel bone or ox horn, while the sheath is carved from red birch. They are ornately decorated with unique ethnic designs, making each piece a work of art.
