Hangzhou's exquisite beauty can not only be seen in its scenery but also in the countless items locally produced here.  Situated along the Yangtze River Delta, it has garnered a reputation for making excellent silk, tea, and artwork.
Silk:  Hangzhou has long been known for producing excellent quality silks and satins that reach the global market as well as the Chinese markets.  You will be able to find pure silk fabrics, garments, ties, scarves, and all sorts of handicrafts items at clothing markets and shopping streets.  Prices vary and bargaining is not only expected but also encouraged.
Hangzhou Longjing Tea:  Considered a cultural cornerstone of Chinese life, some of the China's finest teas can be enjoyed here in Hangzhou.  The Longjing tea has a long history in Hangzhou for its unique green color, flat leaves, sweet tastes, and fragrant aroma.  You can partake in a tea ceremony or simply enjoy the taste at various teahouses all over the city.  There you'll learn the different grades of teas and the best time to pick the leaves from the trees.
Silk Parasols:  Made from local silk and bamboo, Hangzhou's finely made silk parasols come in an array of colors and designs.  It has been a staple of the region for past centuries, shading locals, royalty, and visitors alike.  A summer stroll around the West Lake with one in hand should provide great relief from the sun.  Look for merchants at most major tourist attractions and shopping areas.
