Chengdu Transportations
One of the main transportation hubs in southwest China, Chengdu is well connected by all forms of transit to most major cities in the country.
Air: Chengdu is easily accessible by air, receiving 60 scheduled flights a day from China’s biggest cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Buangzhou, Nanjing, Lhasa, Guilin, and Xiamen, just to name a few. It is the fourth largest international airport in China and also services daily flights to Hong Kong and Bangkok. Although the airport is located 20 kilometers outside of the city center, it is conveniently accessed by shuttle busses that depart every 15 minutes from the Civil Aviation Mansion. While the shuttle only makes scheduled stops at the airport, passengers looking to catch a ride to the bus or train station can ask to be dropped off at Tiaoshanta station, from which they can take bus No. 34 to the Western Bus Station or Northern Railway Station.
Railway: Travel by rail is a convenient option because Chengdu is the most significant rail hub in southwestern China, connected to nearly all of the country’s largest cities.
Bus: Chengdu has several bus stations servicing numerous routes throughout the country. With six national highways passing through the city, traveling by bus is a very practical option when visiting Chengdu. Bus routes travel to many cities and provinces in China including Tibet.
Public Bus: Public busses are a very affordable and convenient way to see most of the city’s scenic locations. At 1 yuan for regular busses, and 2 yuan for air conditioned busses it’s worth a ride to check out the sites.
Taxi: In Chengdu taxi meters are fixed at 5 yuan for the first 1 k. For each additional kilometer after that it will cost you 1.4 yuan. As a word of advice, a return charge of 50% is added to any distance over 7 kilometers.
Pedicabs: Unless you are choosing your mode of transport for the experience, pedicabs usually will cost you as much if not more than a taxi ride.
