Emei Mountain

Mt. Emei is the tallest of China's Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains, standing more than 1,000m higher than the other three at an elevation of 3,099m.  the mountain derived its name, which literally translates to mean “Delicate Eyebrow Mountain,” from its two peaks that resemble the delicate eyebrows indicative of classic Chinese beauty. The mountain was first inhabited as a Taoist retreat over 10,000 years ago, but became a sacred Buddhist site by the 3rd Century AD.  The construction of Buddhist temples inspired by Indian missionaries and texts began on Mt. Emei during the Song Dynasty in the mid-9th Century. Extensive construction continued during the Ming Dynasty, transforming any remaining Taoist temples to Buddhist temples, establishing the mountain as one of Buddhism’s holiest sites. Over 30 Buddhist temples are scattered throughout the splendid mountainous landscape, many of which are massive in scale and stature. Monkeys roam the temple grounds but don’t worry, they aren’t dangerous and are accustomed to tourists. A full days hike brings visitors on an unforgettable journey to the summit, but for those not prepared for the hike, mini-busses and cable cars provide a time saving alternative.
The peak is known for its uniquely natural spectacles including famously exquisite sunsets, and the apparent sea of clouds that can be seen from the mountain's Golden Summit. Although the sunrises vary in strength and eloquence, they typically begin as a blank canvas of deep purple quickly interrupted by brushstrokes of rosy pink clouds, followed closely by a bright purple arc that provides a gateway for the semicircular sun to brake the dawn. The clouds that billow heavily just below the peak of the Golden Summit appear as a sea of pillow-like waves undulating freely in the sky.

Travel Notes:
1, Cold-Resistance: the altitude of Emei Mountain is 3099 meters. The temperature difference is sharp between the mountain foot and mountain peaks. So it is necessary to prepare for cold resistance. The thick coat is needed.
2, Rain-Proof: the clouds and fogs are dense. The drizzle is always falling. So the rain gears like raincoat or umbrella is needful.
3, Be Careful: some section of road is slippery, be careful when climbing the mountains.
