Du Fu Thatched Cottage

Built as a place of refuge to escape the An-Shi Rebellion in 760, the thatched cottage, located on the western edge of Chengdu was the home and workplace of famed Chinese poet Du Fu. The original structure stood beside the Flower Bathing Brook on a 24 hectare plot of land, encompassing the Fan'an Temple on the east grounds, and the Plum Garden on the west.
Du Fu spent four years at the cottage composing over 240 poems, including some of his most notable works. After his departure from Chengdu the cottage remained abandoned and was not rebuilt until hundreds of years later during the Northern Song Dynasty. The complex has been continually renovated and expanded, and has become a shrine to Chinese literary arts, commemorating Du Fu as an outstanding attribute to Chinese literature. The grounds include traditional gardens, winding streams, stone bridges, and a scattering of pavilions.
